Green Savannah

Green Savannah Project (GSP) is a partnership between the Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL) and Circum Farms (subsidiary of Circum Group). In line with the GSP MOU, Circum Farms is responsible for managing not less than 2,200 hectares of farmland provided by NAFIL within the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base, Makurdi for the purpose of building and developing the farmland into a well arranged and structured mechanized farm. Circum Farms undertakes the responsibility of providing all the skill and requisite knowledge for the smooth operation of the farm to ensure its optimal profit. The management of the farmland has an initial running period of 3 years, which commenced on the 27th of April 2021 as landmarked by a groundbreaking ceremony.

FOSTERING RELATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE HOST COMMUNITIES

Fostering and maintaining cordial community relationship with host community, as well as contributing to the development of the community is critical to ensuring hitch-free operations and security of our investment. To this end, series of engagements with critical stakeholders and neighbouring communities, settlers and farmers using the Air Force land have been held with a view to carry everyone along, especially those who may be directly impacted by the company’s activities on the land. Our community relations activities and outcomes are highlighted as follows:

Meeting with Tse-wadjue and adjourning Communities

This meeting was held in the community market square and had in attendance, the Zaaki and his council, some prominent sons, heads of various groups and members of the community. The Circum team was led by the CEO with other members of staff present. All contentious issues regarding the smooth operations of the farm, protection of crops and equipment within the area were addressed. In response to the cooperation from the community, Circum has begun to make good on its commitment to providing job opportunities, and other benefits to communities of interest through the following:

Engagement of 20 youths for farm security patrol
Training of 7 youths on Tractor Operations
Engagement of over 50 women and youths as farm workers

Meeting with the Base Community/Farmers

This meeting was aimed at sensitizing the base community, de-escalating tension and fostering a better relationship. Arising from this meeting, the Base Community Farm Scheme was introduced to give everyone a sense of ownership and forestall illegal farming activities by personnel and other farmers on the Air Force land. When fully implemented, the scheme will ensure that issues of grievances and apprehension would be addressed. This is to guarantee that nobody’s farm produce will be affected by our operation.
